Key Biscayne Community Church & Day School
Since 1954, generations of Key Biscayne children have begun school here. Today’s children learn in small classes, a garden and an outdoor classroom, guided by The Island Classroom, the curriculum we wrote for this island, for ages 14 months through PreK4.
Tours happen during the school day, so you see it as it really is.
Large spaces, a playground and an outdoor classroom mean children spend real time outside every day, in a space that is kept clean, safe and ready for them.
The Island Classroom curriculum draws on the best of several approaches and ties them to the place children live: the garden, the water, and seasons.
Children build the early literacy, math, independence and social skills they need for the next classroom, and eventually for kindergarten, through hands-on learning that keeps them curious and engaged.

Every week at KBCC has a question at the center of it. Children return to it through stories, art, movement, language and the outdoors, with teachers shaping it for what children can engage with at each age. Ask this at dinner, and see what the week has been about.

Explore the curriculumBefore a child can thrive academically, socially or spiritually, they first need to feel that they belong. That they are known. That they are safe. That sense of belonging is where learning begins.
Children experience familiar rhythms, caring relationships and a consistent daily flow, and every child is known by name from the first morning, so they feel secure enough to explore.
Each month the whole school explores one character trait such as courage, generosity, and gratitude through its stories, its art, and the ordinary moments of the day.
As a ministry of Key Biscayne Community Church, faith is woven naturally through school life. We warmly welcome families of every faith background.

Request a tourThe outdoor classroom is part of how children learn here. Soil, seeds, stones, bark, water and the garden harvest come into the rooms and shape what children read, count and make.
Children are grouped with peers close to their own age, in narrow age ranges, and move up to the next class as they grow. As children move up, teachers share what they know about each child’s growth, strengths and next steps.

Prefer to drop in? Our grounds host the Key Biscayne Community Church Farmers Market on Saturdays, and on the first and third Saturday of each month you can tour the school without an appointment.
